Tokyo Mysore Classes
The Mysore style of yoga asana practice is a particular way of teaching yoga within the Ashtanga tradition as taught by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. The actual term comes from the city where K. Pattabhi Jois taught for his entire life, Mysore, India. In the Mysore tradition of practicing the teacher does not verbally lead the class. Rather each student flows along in the traditional sequence of asanas that they have learned. The teacher then moves around the room assisting each individual with hands-on adjusting or a small amount of personal verbal instruction. When the student is ready to move on to the next posture the teacher show’s them what is next. In this way a personal relationship develops between teacher and student and the yoga is applied to the students individual needs. All levels are welcome within the Mysore class setting however it is best for the student to already have learned the basics of the Ashtanga method such as Suryanamaskara A and B and at least some of the standing sequence.
Hope to see you there!
