Traditionally Ashtanga yoga is practiced on a cotton mat. This approach was initiated in Mysore, India prior to the advent of "Sticky" mats. For hundreds of years (or at least since tiger skins fell out of popularity) cotton rugs have been the accessory of choice for the discerning yogi. A trek to Mysore used to be the only way to acquire one. Today through the wonders of importation one need not make a trip to the “Motherland of Ashtanga” to acquire a cotton yoga mat. You may simply point and click and one will be delivered to your door. It’s not as dynamic as a trek to India but it sure is convenient. Our Mysore Rugs are loom-woven, made of 100% cotton.
