vrksasana tree pose, warrior pose virabhadrasana, ashtanga yoga, David Swenson

May there be peace

The Ashtanga Yoga Confluence in San Diego was fantastic. Our organizer, Jenny, poured heart and precision into every detail, creating an atmosphere of curiosity, joy, and deep learning. I left inspired by so many conversations after yoga class, the kind that stay with you long after the mats are rolled up. Moments like these remind me why simple, steadfast practices, and matter. In the rush of travel, vrksasana tree pose steadies my attention, and warrior pose virabhadrasana reconnects me to purposeful strength.

China Weekend Workshop & Teacher Training

I flew from San Diego to China for a Weekend Workshop and Yoga Teacher Training. It’s great to be here; Asia has always felt welcoming to me since living in Hong Kong in the mid-80s. Between sessions we anchor breath, refine vinyasa, and revisit alignment cues that make practice sustainable. When time zones blur, I lean on a short reset: three steady breaths, then vrksasana tree pose to re-center, to re-ignite intent. Repeating and warrior pose virabhadrasana between teaching blocks keeps body and mind aligned.

A Traveler’s Mini-Sequence

6–8 calm breaths

Vrksasana tree pose (R/L) to balance the vestibular system

Warrior pose virabhadrasana (R/L) to wake hips and backline

Quiet sit, carry the focus into your day

Back to Massachusetts: Join for a Day or the Whole Event

From here I’ll return to the U.S. for some fun-filled yoga teaching in East Longmeadow, Massachusetts. If you’re nearby, you can join for a single day or attend the full yoga event, your choice. We’ll refine foundations, revisit breath-led transitions, and explore grounded standing work. Expect to see how vrksasana tree pose and warrior pose virabhadrasana can translate into better stability in jump-backs, cleaner turns of the rib cage, and a calmer gaze when the room gets lively.

August on Maui: M.O.M. ( Mysore on Maui)

If you’re looking for August plans, consider M.O.M., Mysore on Maui. Come for the month, a week, or drop in for a single class if you’re on island time. The setting makes it easy to deepen practice; even a few minutes before Mysore and a closing can imprint steadiness for the rest of the day.

- David
