September to Remember to Be Limber
Share
Shelley and I are savoring Maui’s magic, the light on the water, the trade winds, the quiet. With little to no rain lately, part of each day goes to watering our parched, thirsty trees. Hands in the soil keep me honest and present; it’s the most reliable form of grounding I know.
Listening to the Landscape
When we tune in, the landscape speaks. A struggling tree shares its story through drooping leaves and a dull aura; a healthy one glows with color and offers juicy fruit. I do what I can, compost, mulch, patience, and care. It reminds me how practice works: consistent pranayamas, attention to detail, and kindness over time. Just as trees respond to care, we do too. Through breath-led stillness and the map of yoga chakras, we become more attuned to the web that links all living things.
Breath Practices
Breath is universal. Prana is everywhere. Nature answers when we learn to listen. I return to simple pranayamas, even-count breathing, lengthened exhale, and gentle retentions, to settle the nervous system and reawaken intuition. When I pair those pranayamas with a brief sweep through the yoga chakras, root to crown, focus sharpens, and a sense of humble connection returns.

October on the Road
In October, we’ll be back on the road. Shelley will be in Seattle, collaborating on a large dance program with Pacific Northwest Ballet, movement, music, and the same listening we practice in pranayamas. I’ll head to Paris for a yoga workshop and training where we’ll explore practical sequencing, breath pacing, and a compassionate tour of the yoga chakras in daily yoga practice. Different cities, shared intention.
Fall is coming, and change is in the air, the kind that asks for steady breath, warm hands, and a willingness to pay attention. May your days be grounded, your pranayamas unhurried, and your path through the yoga kind and clear.
Best wishes, love, and respect,
David
