The Thing About Trying to Awaken Kundalini Without Preparing the Sahasrara Crown Chakra

There's this whole mythology around trying to awaken kundalini and everybody's focused on the dramatic experience part. Like, the energy moving through you and everything shifting. But nobody really talks about whether the sahasrara crown chakra is actually ready for that. And if it's not ready, trying to awaken kundalini becomes kind of a mess.

It's weird because the sahasrara crown chakra is supposedly the endpoint. It's where the whole thing is supposed to go if you awaken kundalini. But people get so focused on the process of awakening kundalini that they don't consider whether they've actually prepared the destination. Like showing up to a party at a house that's not clean and expecting everything to be great.

The sahasrara crown chakra is supposed to be this place of transcendence or connection or whatever you want to call it. But if someone tries to awaken kundalini before their sahasrara crown chakra has any capacity to receive that energy, things get weird. People get overwhelmed. They have experiences they're not prepared for. They don't know what to do with the kundalini once it's active.

The Sahasrara Crown Chakra Needs Preparation

Most teachings about awakening kundalini skip over this completely. They focus on the techniques. The breathwork. The meditation. But preparing the sahasrara crown chakra is kind of equally important. Because if your sahasrara crown chakra is closed or contracted or underdeveloped, then awakening kundalini is just going to hit a wall at the top of your head.

And that doesn't sound pleasant honestly.

The sahasrara crown chakra is where connection happens. Integration happens. If someone's trying to awaken kundalini without doing groundwork at the sahasrara crown chakra level, they're basically skipping the integration part. Which means the awakening kundalini experience might feel amazing for a moment but then there's nowhere for it to go.

It Takes Longer Than People Want

David Swenson talks about this in Only Dead Fish Go With The Flow. How the practice is about creating capacity. And the sahasrara crown chakra work is about creating capacity at the highest level. Opening your system to actually receive what awakening kundalini can bring.

But that's boring. It doesn't sound exciting. Saying you're working on your sahasrara crown chakra doesn't have the same ring as saying you're going to awaken kundalini. So people skip it. They try to awaken kundalini first and figure out the sahasrara crown chakra part later if they even get there.

The ones who actually do the work backwards usually have smoother experiences. Like, they spend time with their sahasrara crown chakra. Getting familiar with it. Opening it slowly. Creating capacity. And then when they awaken kundalini, there's actually space for it to go.

Probably makes more sense than the rushed version but it's harder to sell that narrative
