eight limbs of yoga, padmasana lotus, ashtanga yog, David Swenson

Time for Spring!

Happy Spring! After a heart-filling stay in Mysore with dear friends and our Ashtanga family, Shelley and I are back in Austin for a short pause. A week on home soil is the perfect window to reset intentions, refine sequences, and reconnect with the eight limbs of yoga as practical daily anchors—ethics, breath, focus, and steadiness that travel well. In quiet morning sits, returning to padmasana lotus invites ease in the hips and a calm, present mind. Even 5 minutes of stillness, followed by a mindful review, can set the tone for the whole day.

Berlin Ahead: Weekend Workshop & 7-Day Training

I’ll soon head to Berlin for a weekend Ashtanga workshop and a 7-day teacher training. We’ll braid alignment, breath-led vinyasa, and practical study so that philosophy meets the mat in tangible ways. Expect clear progressions for entering and exiting safely; variations will support different bodies and seasons of practice. By revisiting the eight limbs of yoga as a living framework, we’ll refine attention, cultivate compassion, and build durable focus, qualities that make padmasana lotus more accessible and sustainable over time.

A Simple Daily Arc (Berlin Preview)

Arrive: 2–3 minutes of steady nasal breathing.

Center: Seated stillness in padmasana lotus (or a supported variation).

Integrate: Choose one limb from the eight limbs of yoga as a theme for your practice and day.

Close: Quiet gratitude for teachers and community.

Book News: “Only Dead Fish Go With The Flow” (Pre-Release Soon)

My new book, Only Dead Fish Go With The Flow, is nearing the finish line and will open for a Pre-release Sale soon. Everyone who orders during the yoga event will receive a fun, engaging surprise gift, I think it will be music to your ears! The book weaves practical cues, stories from the road, and ways to embody beyond the mat. You’ll also find step-by-step options to approach with patience, care, and curiosity.

Seasonal Shift: Practice as Renewal

Wherever you are, Austin, Berlin, Denver, or beyond, the rhythm of breath and the shared pulse of community connect us. As winter turns to spring, nature’s renewal mirrors our own: steady discipline softens into ease, and devotion opens toward freedom. Keep a small ritual, three mindful breaths, and a brief reflection on the eight limbs of yoga. These micro-moments compound into a season of clarity.

See You on the Mat

I’m grateful for your support and look forward to practicing together soon, practice online or in person. Until then, may your days be bright, your breath unhurried, and your steps guided.
